Hanatutor (also referred to as “us”, “we”, or “platform”) recognizes the importance of assuring our users (also referred to as “you”) of the value, time, and resources we have invested in to be able to receive, process, store, and protect our user’s personal information. We adhere to all applicable laws for the protection of personal information, including the Personal Information Protection Act of 2011 (also referred to as “PIPA”). Hanatutor and all our employees and authorized representatives undertake to protect personal information by adhering to applicable laws of South Korea, other laws, and international laws, including the provisions of this Privacy Policy.

1. PROTECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

Hanatutor has and will continue to improve its systems for receiving, processing, storing, and protecting personal information. Measures will be taken to ensure proper and efficient management of personal information, including setting up a department solely for the management of personal data. We will continually update our systems by employing encryption and security authentication factors to ensure there is no mismanagement, loss, leakage, alteration, or destruction of any personal data. Third parties are also required to offer the same preventive and corrective measures to ensure that no damage occurs to the personal data of any of our users. However, please understand that Hanatutor cannot warrant the security of any information transferred to us as data transmitted through the internet cannot be 100% guaranteed to be secure.

2. GOVERNING LAWS AND COMPLIANCE

We adhere to all local and international laws applicable to the protection of personal data, including laws applicable to special people such as the protection of children’s data. Our primary governing law is the Personal Information Protection Act of 2011 as well as other regulations and policies for the protection of personal data. As the law, norms, and practices change in the IT, social, or legal space, we will adapt to those changes and continue to improve our compliance in protecting the personal data of all our users.

3. INFORMATION THAT WE COLLECT

When you sign up to use our platform or access our service, you will be required to provide us with some personal information to enable us to provide this service to you. Please note that some information is compulsory and without that information, you may be blocked from accessing or using our platform. We collect personal information through any of the following means:

A. INFORMATION PROVIDED BY YOU

3.1. We may collect information from you when you register an account on our platform. This information includes, but is not limited to, name, address, contact information, gender, age, occupation, display name, profile picture, and any other voluntary information you may provide.

3.2. You may be requested to provide us with payment and financial information, which may include but is not limited to, payment account information, payment account name and number, card number, card expiration date, and billing address.

3.3. We may collect your demographic information such as your address, country of residence, home language, and time zones.

3.4. You may provide personal information to us by filling out forms or surveys on our platform, your subscription to newsletters, promotions, or competitions, your request for support, or through any communication you may have with us.

3.5. We may store and use your tutoring data such as recorded video sessions between a tutor and student, chat data shared between student and tutor on our platform, and any other data collected by your use of our service. This data may be used for our internal benefits such as class evaluation, tutor evaluation, dispute resolution between student and tutor, marketing purposes, or use in improving our services.

B. INFORMATION COLLECTED THROUGH AFFILIATES AND NON-AFFILIATE THIRD-PARTY SYSTEMS

3.6. Hanatutor may collect information about you through affiliated and non-affiliated third-party such as Zoom platforms, Lessonspace, etc that we may use for classes, social media platforms, your reviews about us on third-party platforms, and communications with us through third-party platforms.

3.7. We may use third-party analytics systems to collect information that may help us analyze your user trends such as Google Analytics.

C. INFORMATION COLLECTED AUTOMATICALLY INCLUDING COOKIES

3.8. Hanatutor and our third-party service providers may collect information about the device(s) you use to access and use our service through various tracking technologies. We may collect the following information, but not limited to, the type of device you use, the device’s operating system and version, the browser type and domain name, the IP address, the access time, the frequency of your use of our service, the time spent on our platform and the pages you visited, the language used, and the location.

3.9. This information helps us improve our services to you by being able to see how you access and respond to our platform, what you like or don’t like, and which service is easily accessible to you and which isn’t, as well as why that is so. We are then able to improve our site, analyze our marketing campaigns, and improve thereof

Hanatutor and our third-party service providers may use cookies and other electronic technologies to collect information that may help us improve our services so that you may have an enjoyable time on our platform. Cookies are files that store your time, activities, and usage of the internet. They help companies analyze the user’s likes, preferences, interests, and overall activities on the internet.

3.11. Cookies help us improve our services by creating tailored services for our users, taking into account our user’s interests so that we can adapt our platform to your desires, managing our content better, and coming up with user statistics.

3.12. The user has a choice to accept or decline cookies depending on your browser settings. You can change the settings at any time. We edge you to enable cookies so that you can get the best of our service.

4. USE OF COLLECTED INFORMATION

We use the collected information for the following reasons but not limited to:

4.1. To assist you to create a profile/account on our platform.

4.2. Certain information is needed for you to be able to access our platform and use our service, such as booking a lesson, payments for your booked lessons, or contacting a tutor.

4.3. We may use the information collected to identify you when you make contact with us for questions, comments, reviews, or complaints.

4.4. We require contact information to communicate with you about our service, your account, payment transactions, inquiries, promotional and marketing emails, to send you surveys, newsletters, and notifications, or any other information we may need to communicate with you and vice versa.

4.5. Data collected from cookies and other electronic technologies will help to manage your data better and improve our services to meet your needs and preferences.

4.6. The data collected will be used to create promotions, surveys, newsletters, and user statistics such as how many people use our services and the frequency of their use.

4.7. The data collected will assist us design marketing and advertising campaigns that can give us better results and improve on current campaigns.

4.8. We will use the data collected to verify your identity when necessary to prevent any fraud or misrepresentations.

4.9. We will use the data to analyze our platform and services and improve accordingly for the best user experience.

5. SHARING YOUR INFORMATION

Hanatutor will not share our user’s personal information unless the following warrants the provision of such information:

5.1. We may share your information with our affiliates and partners for the benefit of our company and for you to continue to enjoy accessing and using our platform.

5.2. We may share your information with our various service providers so that they may perform their functions under their obligations to us. Such service providers include but are not limited to, technical support, data transmission and storage, IT services, security enforcement, marketing and advertising, customer service, and legal services.

5.3. You have given us your consent to share your information.

5.4. If a request is made under any laws or regulations which allow us to share your information.

5.5. If our failure to provide your information may result in matters that may threaten the public interest.

5.6. If our disclosure of your information is in cooperation with the request by any government or public body concerning any applicable laws.

5.7. If it is necessary to exercise our rights according to this Policy, our User Agreement, contractual obligations, and any applicable laws to disclose your information.

5.8. Should Hanatutor be part of a merger, business transfer, sale of company assets, financing, or the acquisition of all or part of our company by another entity, we will disclose your information to that entity.

6. CONSENT TO TRANSFER

Hanatutor is based in South Korea and all our computer systems are based in South Korea. By signing up to use our platform, you agree that your data will be transferred into our computer systems in South Korea and will be kept here thereof. Furthermore, you agree that your data will be subject to the protection of personal data laws of South Korea which may or may not offer the same protection or regulations for processing, storing, and using your data as other countries or states.

7. THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES

You are aware that Hanatutor may be linked to other websites such as websites of our partners, affiliates, and other third-party websites. You agree that Hanatutor has no connection to the privacy policies of those websites. You are responsible for reading their policies concerning the use of your data or contacting them directly should you have questions, concerns, or comments about their privacy policies. In addition, the provisions set in this Privacy Policy apply only to our service and not that of third parties.

8. YOU HAVE A CHOICE

The user has rights and choices that he/she can make through individual settings on our platform, including:

8.1. When creating an account on our platform, you have a choice to withhold information that is optional to share.

8.2. You can edit the settings at any time, including changing the personal data that you have provided.

8.3. A user has the right to cancel their account with us at any time.

8.4. A user has a right to unsubscribe from the marketing emails sent by us to their email by simply clicking on “unsubscribe”.

8.5. The user has the right to opt out of any cookie-related or analytics data processing subscriptions on our platform by following the steps provided on this platform.

8.6. A user has the right to accept or reject cookies.

9. DURATION OF DATA STORAGE

9.1. Hanatutor will store your data for the duration that you have an account with us, however, if your account has been inactive for 24 months, your account will be regarded as expired.

9.2. Upon expiration, we will remove all your data from our systems.

9.3. When you cancel your account with Hanatutor, we will remove your data within 90 days after such deletion or cancellation. However, should there be a pending dispute resolution, your data may be kept for longer to be used as evidence for any claims.

9.4. We may keep your data longer or shorter than the stipulated 90 days depending on the applicable laws and any court order.

9.5. We will store personal data on our emailing contact list for as long as you have not unsubscribed from receiving our emails.

10. MODIFICATION OF OUR PRIVACY POLICY

This Privacy Policy may be reviewed and revised from time to time as we see fit. We may or may not notify the user of any changes made, however, if we believe that the changes are material or we are required by the law to notify the user of the changes, we will do so through this platform or our usual notification channels.
